The Politics Of Karma
Joe Biden finds himself in hot water after multiple batches of classified documents from his time as Vice President under President Obama have been found at his house among other locations.
On August 8th, 2022 the FBI, in an unprecedented move, raided former President Trump’s residence at Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. The FBI executed the search warrant after Trump was accused of not having turned over some documents to the National Archive in compliance with the Presidential Records Act (PRA) of 1978. Some of the documents found at Mar-A-Lago allegedly contained classified information.
Democratic lawmakers and political pundits saluted the FBI for the raid, with many suggesting Trump deliberately stole the documents to sell to foreign countries.
Here's Newsweek suggesting Trump may have sold the documents and calling for his arrest
While Democrats and their allies in the media were celebrating the unprecedented raid of the former President’s residence, Republicans were outraged. Republican lawmakers claimed Biden and the Democrats weaponized the federal government to go after their political rivals. Calls for investigations into the FBI and the DOJ were growing.
President Biden on CBS’s 60 Minutes said he couldn’t understand how it could happen. “How can anyone be that irresponsible“ he rhetorically asked. Adding “And I thought, what data is in there that may compromise sources and methods”
Fast forward to early January 2023 and news broke that Biden’s lawyers had found several classified documents in his office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington D.C.
The mainstream media immediately went into defense mode for Biden attempting to make excuses and explain how this is different than the documents found in Trump’s possession.
The first excuse on behalf of Biden was that it was only a few documents and his lawyers immediately turned it over to the National Archives as opposed to Trump who allegedly refused to turn over the documents. But not two days have passed since the initial revelation when it was revealed that additional classified documents were found at Biden’s primary residence in Wilmington, Delaware.
The nature of what information these documents contained was not immediately clear. But a clear distinction can be made with documents found at Mar-A-Lago in a secured, private closet, and the documents found lying around in the garage of Biden’s house and a think tank office which many people had access to.
Unsurprisingly, and unlike what happened with Trump, no media outlet has jumped to speculate what Biden intended to do with these documents.
Early afternoon on January 12th, Attorney General Garland announced that he had appointed former US attorney Robert Hur as a special counsel to probe the classified documents found in Biden’s possession.
But as of the time of this writing, no FBI raids have been reported.
